Golf at Cowan's Ford

The course measures almost 7,000 yards from the tips, with a variety of tees to accommodate golfers of all abilities. Cowan’s Ford is a thinking person’s golf course. For good scores, the players must plan approach shots and navigate our healthy undulating greens.

The comprehensive practice facility is over 40,000 square feet. It includes a chipping green, practice tee, bunkers and a large practice putting green.

Cowan’s Ford Golf Club has active Men's, Senior Men's, and Ladies' Golf Leagues. The club also has a comprehensive Junior golf program throughout the summer months. It includes clinics, play days, inter-club matches, parent/child events, and a Junior Club Championship.

Lance Reid

Title

Head Golf Professional

Born to be a golf professional is the best way to describe Lance Reid. As the son of a golf professional, he started playing at Westport Golf Club when he was 7. While not a paid position at the time, he went to work in the summers with his father, Howard, and “picked” the driving range.

Literally growing up on the golf course, Lance learned, first hand, all aspects of the industry. After graduating from U.N.C. Chapel Hill where he played on the Golf Team, Lance went to work at Cowan’s Ford G.C. as an assistant professional for three years. With the goal of working at two different facilities as an apprentice, Lance went to Gaston C.C., where he finished his apprenticeship and gained his Class A PGA status in 1996.

Lance then went from Gaston C.C. to Stanly County C.C. where he worked as the golf professional and on site owner for nearly ten years. After staying on to ensure the smooth transition of Stanly County C.C. from his family’s ownership to the new buyers, Lance returned to Cowan’s Ford G.C. as a Golf Professional in 2007.

As a player, Lance finished as runner-up in the North Carolina Junior and competed in the Carolinas-Virginias Team Matches. In college his claim to fame was making the second of back to back hole in ones. As a professional, he has won several pro-ams and competed in the National Club Professional Championship twice. Also in 2011 he and his partner won the Carolina’s Pro-Assistant Championship.
